Obituary

Graveside services for Anita Faye Walker Smith, 85, of Waterproof, Louisiana, will be held at 1pm on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at Legion Memorial Cemetery, Newellton, Louisiana, with Reverend Larry Foster officiating, internment to follow all under the direction of Dennard First National Funeral Home Winnsboro, Louisiana.

Anita was the first born child to Irene and Laney Thomas (L.T.) Walker of Waterproof, Louisiana. Anita knew the value of family from an early age; her youth was spent surrounded by the love and support of her parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins. Raised in Waterproof, she was a proud graduate of Waterproof High School, class of 1957. Just one day after her graduation, Anita married the love of her life, Marvin Smith, on the front steps of her parents home. Later, the couple welcomed their only child and pride and joy, Carolyn. Anita was a wonderful mother and devoted wife which was immediately apparent by anyone who met her.

A longtime resident of Tensas Parish, Anita was known for her kindness, her generous spirit, and the love she extended to everyone she met. Anita was a dedicated and active member of Waterproof First Baptist Church, where she shared her faith and warmth with all who knew her. Throughout her career, she served the community at the St. Joseph ASCS office before working at Producers Gin in Waterproof.

First and foremost, Anita was a caregiver to anyone and everyone: she was the first to offer help or her time. When visiting her home, you always felt the warmth of her generous spirit. She was always smiling and spreading kind words to anyone she encountered. You would find her singing, humming, or dancing around the house as she cooked, crafted, or played with her grandkids. Anita and Marvin spent many years enjoying retirement and traveling together. She will always be remembered as a sweet and loving soul who touched the hearts of many.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of sixty-three years, Marvin Smith; her only child, Carolyn Smith Arceneaux, and her son-in-law, James Arceneaux, Jr.; parents, Laney Thomas (L.T.) Walker, Sr., and Irene Rabb Walker; and her brother, Laney Thomas Walker, Jr.

Anita will be lovingly missed by her grandchildren: Becca Weeks and William of Vicksburg, Mississippi; Michael Arceneaux and Lindsey of St. Joseph, Louisiana; and Dr. Emma Lensing and Dr. Gabe of Oxford, Mississippi. Her memory will also be cherished by her seven great grandchildren: Laney Elizabeth Weeks (13), Allie Katherine Weeks(11), Emery Walker Weeks(3), Connor Michael Arceneaux (1), James Gabriel Lensing (3), Claire Elizabeth Lensing(2), and Kate Carlisle Lensing (6 months).
