Carolyn was the only child born to loving parents, Marvin and Anita Smith on February 21, 1958, in Port Arthur, Texas. Carolyn, a life-long resident of Tensas Parish, was raised in Waterproof, Louisiana near both sets of her grandparents: L.T. and Irene Walker and C.L. and Eunice Smith. Carolyn attended Tensas Academy in St. Joseph, Louisiana before attending Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. During the summer, she was introduced to her future husband, James Arceneaux, Jr. of St. Joseph, Louisiana, by her soon-to-be brother-in-law. The couple was married on February 25, 1978, at St. Joseph Baptist Church. Carolyn and James made their home in St. Joseph where they raised three wonderful children: Rebecca Anne, Michael James, and Emily Kate.
Carolyn devoted her life to her family. She was a homemaker, farm wife, and an employee of the Tensas Parish School Board. Carolyn was a member of Maryland Baptist Church in St. Joseph, Louisiana. She always cared for others before herself. Carolyn will forever be remembered as the epitome of a selfless and dedicated Christian matriarch.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her father, Marvin Smith and her in-laws, James and Erma Arceneaux.
Carolyn will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her husband of 45 years, James Arceneaux, Jr., of St. Joseph, Louisiana; her mother, Anita Smith of Waterproof, Louisiana; her beloved children: Becca Weeks (William) of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Michael Arceneaux (Lindsey) of St. Joseph, Louisiana, and Dr. Emma Lensing (Dr. Gabe) of Charlotte, North Carolina; treasured grandchildren: Laney Weeks (11), Allie Weeks (9), Emery Weeks (1), Connor Arceneaux (1 month), James Lensing (2), and Claire Lensing (6 months).
