Charles Howard
Colvin
Feb 9, 1944 — Feb 7, 2025
Funeral services for Charles (Charlie) Howard Colvin, 80, of Newellton, LA, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on February 11, 2025 , at Flowers Landing Baptist Church, Newellton, LA, with Rev. Aaron (Buddy) Willis and Rev. Clyde Dearman officiating. Interment will follow in Legion Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Dennard First National Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home on Monday, February 10, 2025.
Charlie was born on February 9, 1944, to the union of the late Roy D. Colvin and the late Ada Grace Parker Colvin, in St. Joseph, LA, and passed from this life on February 7, 2025, at Plantation Manor Nursing Home in Winnsboro. (Just two days before his 81st birthday.) He was a 1962 graduate of Newellton High School.
Growing up on a farm on Newell Ridge Road, in rural Tensas Parish, he was surrounded by a loving family which included his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Flowers Landing Baptist Church always played an important part in his life, and he served there as a Deacon for 50 years. He loved to get a volleyball game together at the church on Saturday nights for whoever wanted to play.
Charlie never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone he could. He, along with his faithful wife of 58 years , Vera Jeanette Muse Colvin, provided a loving home for their two children, Emily Caroline Colvin Curry and Justin Brodey Colvin. He liked old things and loved to go "junking" to see what he could find to add to his large collection. If somebody needed a specific item they knew that Charlie either had one or knew where to find it.
Charlie was a retired farmer and a school bus operator for Tensas Parish School Board for 40 years. He built C & C Car Wash and Washateria in Newellton and operated it for many years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ada Colvin and both his brothers, Bobby Colvin of Clinton, LA, and Billy Colvin of Slidell, LA.
Survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife of 57 years and 10 months, Vera Jeanette Muse Colvin, of Newellton; daughter, Emily Caroline Colvin Curry (Craig) of Plain Dealing, LA; son, Justin Brodey Colvin, of Newellton; two grandsons, Caleb Charles Curry nand Coby Jake Warren Curry, both of Plain Dealing, LA; a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends.
Pallbearers will be David Merriett, Curtis Billmeier, Jacob Hill, Jay Colvin, Caleb Curry, and Coby Jake Curry.
Honorary Pallbearers were: Tipu Ali, Steve Hisaw, Curtis Humphries, Charles Merriett, Parnell Barfield, Mike Cannon, James Hall, Eulas Foster, Kenny Willhite, Andy Willhite, Buddy Muse, Cheatum Davis, Gene Hawk, Steve Miller and Chris Muse.
