Funeral services for Charlie Ray Jennings, Sr.; 95, of Liddieville, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 30, at Dennard First National Funeral Home Winnsboro, with Rev. Ray Jennings and Rev. Bess Graham officiating, with interment following at Ogden Cemetery in Liddieville; visitation will be at the funeral home Saturday, July 29, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Charlie Ray was born November 30, 1927, to the union of the late Bill Jennings and the late Catherine "Connie" Franklin Jennings, in Liddieville, and went to his heavenly home July 22, 2023, with Franklin Medical Center providing Comfort Care, surrounded by family.
Charlie Ray had many employments during his life; he laid board roads for T. J. Owens Construction; he was an equipment operator for the Franklin Parish Police Jury; he was a lowboy operator for the LA Department of Highways; drove a truck for a US mail contractor; he and John Roe Johnston had a farm partnership; he was a school bus driver (what he was most noted for); a school janitor for Ogden High School; was the first driver for the Franklin Parish Sheriffs Office veterans transport program, and was a caretaker for his wife at the end of her life.
Charlie Ray was preceded in death by his wife Byrdie Mae Jennings; his parents; his brother Billy Jennings; and his sister Beverly Jo Thompson.
Charlie Ray is survived by his sons: Ray Jennings and wife Benise, Mike Jennings and wife Karen, and John Jennings and wife Shelia; special friend that was like a daughter Bess Graham; grandchildren: Chuck Jennings and wife Toni, Michelle Jennings, Becky McCullar and husband Michael, Amanda Parker and husband Matt, Kaitlyn McDaniel and husband Michael, and Courtney Covington and husband James; great-grandchildren: Elias, Avery, Emerson, Ainsley, Finley, Raegan, and Lucas; sisters Carrie Francis "Tincey" Baird and Jean Young and husband Charles; a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Pallbearers are Chuck Jennings, Matt Parker, Michael McDaniel, James Covington, Barry Collins, and Keith Collins.
Honorary Pallbearers are Bobby Collins, Charles Young, and his nephews.
The family would like to express their very sincere appreciation to the Comfort Care staff of Franklin Medical Center for the love, care, and compassion they showed to daddy and to the family! We also appreciate the rehab and medical staff of Plantation Manor.
