Obituary

Funeral service for Cordell Phillips, Sr., of Baskin will be 10 am Thursday in Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Rayville with Rev. Prentiss Gandy officiating under the direction of Dennard First National Funeral Home.Daddy passed into eternal rest on January 1, 2023, at the age of 96.He was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Ethel Phillips, 5 brothers-Corvin, Otis, Travis, Leon, Billy Joe and a sister Audrey; son-in-law Randy Woods; great grandson Daylon Phillips and devoted friend Tom Hill.Left to cherish his memory are wife Charlene, daughters: Sandra Woods and her family, Gina Punchard and husband Larry and their family, and son Cordell, Jr. and wife Brenda and their family; two sisters Lucille & Sharon; eleven beloved grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; many friends and wonderful neighbors.Daddy was a quiet and gentle man. He loved to garden and grew lots of vegetables to share with everyone. He was a devoted Christian and read the Bible cover to cover numerous times. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.Daddy was a veteran of World War II serving two tours in the Army, he wasn't one to share war stories. He later worked on rigs; was a licensed plumber and a maintenance supervisor at Winnsboro Housing Authority.Daddy and Mama were married 65 years. Mama tried to keep him in line and Daddy said 'she was running every aspect of his life'!!! When you ask Daddy how he was doing, he would say 'fair to middling'! He loved family dinners and especially Popeyes Chicken although Mamas cooking was always best!We would like to thank Deerfield Nursing Center and Legacy Nursing Center for taking good care of Daddy towards the end. Thank you to all the friends and relatives for visits, he enjoyed it so much; also thank you Bro. Gandy and Dennard First National Funeral Home.Daddy loved us and we loved him.
