Debra Walker

Debra Jane Walker, age 71, passed away on August 24, 2026, in Winnsboro, Louisiana.

Debra was born on April 25, 1955. She was a compassionate and caring woman who never met a stranger and never hesitated to help someone in need. She was known for her generous heart and willingness to help others, often putting the needs of others before her own. She deeply loved her family and her animals and had a way of making the people around her feel cared for and welcome.

From a young age, Debra was a woman of many talents and interests. During her high school years at Lebanon High School in Missouri, she was a member of the jazz band, where she played electric piano. Her talent and dedication gave her the opportunity to travel with the band to London, England, where they performed and made a record. Only approximately 20 students were selected to make the trip, making it a special accomplishment she carried with her throughout her life. Debra also enjoyed barrel racing and had a lifelong love of music.

Debra was especially proud of her education and the accomplishments she achieved throughout her career. As a single mother raising two children, she worked hard to continue her education and build a career in healthcare and education. She began her professional life as a registered nurse and continued her studies, ultimately earning her Ph.D. Her dedication to education led her to serve as an Associate Professor at Indiana Wesleyan University for 13 years. Her educational journey was a testament to her determination, strength, and commitment to creating a better life for herself and her family.

In her free time, Debra enjoyed traveling to Branson with her brother, Rick, and his wife, Sheila. She especially loved the shows, shopping, and atmosphere of Branson. She was also an avid college football fan and enjoyed spending time with the people she loved.

Above all, Debra will be remembered for her compassion, generosity, and love for others. She was the kind of person who was willing to help even when she was the one who needed help herself. Her family, her animals, her music, her education, and the many people whose lives she touched were all important parts of the life she built.

Debra was preceded in death by her parents, Sam Walker and Cletha Jane (Moss) Swenson, and her daughter, Summer Stephenson Carroll.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Paul Wayne Stephenson and Lance Leonard Lenhart; her brother, Rick Walker, and his wife, Sheila Walker; her granddaughter, Kristen Stephenson; and her great-granddaughter, Oaklynn Thompson. She also leaves behind extended family members and many friends whose lives she touched throughout her years.

A service celebrating Debra’s life will be held on September 5, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Dennard’s Funeral Home in Winnsboro, Louisiana.
