His faith has been made sight. Dr. Donald Lynn Middleton, Sr. has passed from this life to eternal knowledge of His Savior and King on October 3, 2023. The theological questions that he loved to ponder in this life are answered in full. Don was a student of the Word and a teacher of the Word to all who listened. He is now seated in the heavenlies where he often longed to be. He truly exemplified 2 Timothy 4:7. He fought the good fight. He has finished the course. Funeral 10:00 AM on Friday, October 6, 2023, Interment will be at Harris Cemetery all under the direction of Dennard First National Funeral Home, Winnsboro, LADonald Lynn Middleton was born in Mangham, LA to the late Timothy and Lottie Middleton on August 24, 1940. The Lord welcomed him home on October 3, 2023. He was 83 years old.Don was loving husband to Bennie Sue Lewis since December 21, 1961, devoted father to Donna, Amy, Cynthia and Donald Lynn, Jr. He was Grandfather of 11, and Great Grandfather of 8. Don was also a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend. In his own words, he wrote, 'being a father defines me.' He was the very best.Don attended Neville High School where he was a member of the marching band. In 1956, when he was only 16 years old, he enlisted in the Louisiana Army National Guard, where he served for 10 years. After high school, Don went to Northeast Louisiana State College (University of Louisiana - Monroe) where he earned a Pre-Med, BS in Biology and Chemistry and a Pharmacy degree. He then attended the University of Texas at Austin and received a Master's in Organic / Pharmaceutical Chemistry and a PhD. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry. In addition, he attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX for Analytical Chemistry & Georgetown University in Washington, DC for Advanced Analytical Chemistry. His professional career included working as a Chemist for the FDA, teaching at the university level, & 29 years as Owner / Pharmacist at Middleton's Drug in Crowville, Louisiana. Through the years, he cared for at least 3 generations of customers, whom he came to think of as his extended family and for whom he cared deeply.Upon his retirement from operating his pharmacy, he found pleasure in several other jobs. He worked as a pharmacist for St. Francis Hospital. He worked for the State of Louisiana on the Medicare Oversight Board. He taught Environmental Science for Louisiana Delta Community College and he worked as a Pharmacist/Consultant reviewing charts and overseeing prescription medication at nursing homes in Franklin, Madison, Caldwell and West Carroll Parishes.He loved and valued his many friends and his family. One of his favorite times of day was morning coffee and conversation with friends at the Stop-n-Shop in Crowville.Don loved teaching his Sunday School class at Temple Baptist Church. He served the church in many different roles over the years as a deacon, church treasurer, choir member, and on various committees when asked. He was involved with youth events in the parish where he served as a Cub Scout & Boy Scout Leader, a little league baseball coach and a softball coach. He participated as a supporter of high school booster clubs for athletics & 4-H livestock shows.Don found joy in taking care of his land, farm animals, and his homestead where he had cows, chickens, horses, dogs, and other animals throughout his life.In November of 2017 Don was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Seemingly, out of nowhere & at 77 years old, he found himself in the fight of his life. God proved Himself faithful throughout this fight. The love of God shown to him through family and friends sustained his body, mind, spirit, and soul. He never viewed himself as a victim, but rather he said, 'you never know what God will call on you to do.' Don viewed living out his faith through this diagnosis as a 'calling.'Throughout the battle, he was faithful to continue using the gifts that he used prior to being diagnosed. He had a gift for teaching. At the time when he became too weak to attend church services, he would continue to teach the Bible lessons in his living room to all gathered there to listen. One of his favorite bible verses was Micah 6:8 - And what does the LORD require of you To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.Once when asked by his grandchildren what he wanted them to know 'above all,' he said this,'Most of all, you must realize that you are deeply loved by God. You must develop a strong character of honesty, independence, and faith. Treat your fellow man with respect. Finally, the most important thing you will ever possess is integrity.'Don Middleton was a man of integrity.He is preceded in death by his father & mother, Timothy Middleton & Lottie Keene Middleton; his sister, Edna Middleton Sanderford; brother, Charles E. Middleton; and brother, Fredrick C. Middleton.He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bennie; his children, Donna Sue Middleton Savage, Amy D'Ann Middleton Davis (Steven), Cynthia Lynn Middleton Gray (Scott), and son, Donald Lynn Middleton, Jr. (Melissa); his grandchildren, Slade (Jessica), Seth, Brelyn (Craig), Zachary, Charles III, Jacob, Elijah, Nathaniel, Donald Lynn, III (Trey), Madelyn, and Troy, step granddaughter, Nichole; his great grandchildren, Austin, Allan, Judson, Liam, Lilith, Gabriel, Caleb, and Steven Dean.Pall Bearers: Grandsons - Slade Savage, Seth Savage, Zachary Hughes, Charlie Gray, Jacob Gray, Trey Middleton, Elijah Gray, Nathaniel Gray, Troy Middleton, Austin Savage, Allan Savage, Judson Savage.
