Funeral services for Mr. Edward A Johns, 101, of Houma, LA will be 2 PM Friday, August 8, 2025, at Dennard Funeral Chapel, with Father Robert Johnson officiating, interment to follow in Ogden Cemetery, visitation will be Friday 12 noon until service time all under the direction of Dennard First National Funeral Home Winnsboro, LA

Edward Alson Johns, 101, a proud World War II United States Army veteran and lifelong educator passed away on August 2, 2025, in Houma, Louisiana.

Mr. Johns served his country honorably during World War II, earning numerous distinctions including the American Theater Campaign Medal with two B, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, and the World War II Victory Medal.

Following his military service, Edward pursued higher education and earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Louisiana Tech University and a master's in library science for Louisiana State University. He dedicated his professional life to education and retired from Terrebonne High School, where he served as teacher and librarian, inspiring generations of students through his love of knowledge and learning.

A lifelong learner himself, he found joy in reading, exploring subjects such as French, mathematics, music, electronics, and Catholicism.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Vann Powell Johns, a son Andre' S. Johns, his parents Warren Edward Johns and Evie Erskin Johns, a brother James A. Johns.

He is survived by his son Anthony Johns; his daughter Melanie Suzanne Johns and her husband Kerry Bergeron; grandson, Ian Callahan; granddaughter Blair Callahan Haworth and her husband Thomas; great grandchildren, Mitchell, Layne and Finn; Max and Lillian. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched both in the classroom and at home.

Pallbearer will be Ian Callahan, Bill Fussell, Bryan Fussell, Mitch Lapeyrouse, Layne Lapeyrouse, Max Callahan, and Jim Dawson.

Serving as an Honorary pallbearer is Kent Bennett.

The family like to thank Brandy Cheramie, Laurie Boudreaux, Holly Leonard RN, and the Staff of Haydel Hospice, James Dawson, Debi and Rusty Elrod, John W., Connie and Lynda Powell.
