Obituary

Funeral services for George Herbert Carraway, 89, of Lexington, SC, formerly of Winnsboro, LA, will be held at 12:00 p.m., Sunday, February 18, 2024, with Rev. Peyton Sparks officiating, at Dennard First National Funeral Home - Winnsboro, with interment following at Providence Memorial Cemetery; visitation will be at the funeral home Saturday, February 17, 2024, From 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.George was born November 11, 1934, in Winnsboro to the union of the late Charlie B. Carraway and the late Lavenia Laticia Wilson Carraway, and passed to his heavenly reward at his residence in Lexington, SC, February 14, 2024.George was a devoted Christian, loving father, and proud grandfather. He was the owner and operator of 5-Point Service Station for many years. Over the years he was also a building contractor, farmer, and restaurant owner. He enjoyed deer hunting in his younger years; he loved to catch fish and loved eating what he caught.George played the guitar and sang at church, and for friends and family. He had a powerful, beautiful smile that made a lasting impression everywhere he went. He will be greatly missed down here, but we know he is rejoicing with his heavenly Father and with family gone before him.George was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Vivian Stinson Carraway, and sisters Joy Smith, Vivian Keith, and Sandra Stutts.He is survived by current wife Shirley Carraway; sons: David Carraway, Ronnie Carraway, and Keith Carraway and wife Lisa; stepdaughters: Terri Slice and husband Tony, and Renee' David and husband Rick; brother Jimmy Carraway and wife Lillian; grandchildren: Chris Carraway and wife Heather, Jeremy Carraway and wife Stacey, Dustin Carraway and wife Anessa, Justin Carraway and wife Deanna, Brandon Carraway, Victoria Erskin and husband Dusty, Jarret Purvis and wife Nikki, Robert Purvis and wife, Kayla, Jacqueline Smith and husband Kent, Amanda Poore and husband Tanner, Brittany Holland and husband Trip, Brooke Rogers, and Richard David; twenty-nine (29) great-grandchildren, four (4) great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.Pallbearers are Dustin Carraway, Jeremy Carraway, Jessie Carraway, Justin Carraway, Tim Carraway, and Dusty Erskin.Online registry/condolences at www.dennardfirstnational.com.
