Jackie Wayne Brown, age 74, of St. Joseph, passed away peacefully September 22, 2021, with his beloved wife & daughter by his side.
He was born August 21, 1947 in Leachville, Arkansas. He was the son of Wilma Onsby Brown & James Sidney Brown of Oxford, Mississippi. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1966, where he was active in football, track & the Boy Scouts of America. He received an associate's degree in Civil Technology from Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia, Mississippi. After college he went to work for the US Army Corps of Engineers. He spent 36 years with the Corps & received The Commanders Award for Civilian Service from the Department of the Army. He also received a Certificate of Appreciation for the Acme Blackhawk Emergency Levee Setback Project from the Vicksburg District of the Corps.
He married Lynn Carol Vinson in December of 1972. They had two daughters, Anne Marie & Carole Lee.
Jackie was a active member of the First United Methodist Church in St. Joseph. He was a founding member of the Tensas Revitalization Committee & an active participant of the St. Joseph Farmers Market. He loved wood working & made many beautiful pieces for friends throughout the parish. He was an avid walker & was often seen around the town walking with his beloved Girl Dog & later on, Lil Girl. He was a long time supporter of Tensas Academy. He LOVED Ole Miss football.
Jackie was survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Lynn; his daughter Anne Marie & son-in-law Kevin Kelley of Lafayette, Louisiana; his daughter Carole Lee Brown & grandson Pip Sam of Fort Collins, Colorado; his brother Rodger & sister-in-law Diane Brown of Belden, Mississippi; brothers-in-law Kenny Vinson & Bernard Walsh of Covington, Louisiana; brother-in-law Wes Vinson & his wife Roxanne of Belle Chasse, Louisiana; several adored cousins, nieces & nephews.
Services will be held Saturday, October 2, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church in St. Joseph. Vitiation with the family will be at 1pm & the memorial service at 2pm. Reverend Johnny Wilkins will officiate.
The family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Gaza Zibari & the nurses at Willis Knighton Medical Center in Shreveport; The Franklin Medical Center staff in St. Joseph; Dr. Ryan Harrison & the nurses at Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro; Luci Thornton & the staff at Legacy Nursing & Rehabilitation in Winnsboro; and countless other doctors & nurses that provided loving care.
The family requests that donations be made to Alzheimer research, the First United Methodist Church in St. Joseph & Tensas Academy.
