Funeral services for Joyce Aline Hemphill Hilbun, 93, of Baskin, will be 2 pm Thursday April 9, 2026, in the chapel of Dennard First National Funeral Home with Stacey Seidlitz and Ruth Warner officiating. Interment will follow in Baskin Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 pm Wednesday April 8, 2026, at the funeral home.
Joyce Aline Hemphill Hilbun was born on April 20, 1932, in Baskin to the union of Bryant and Lucille Hemphill. Joyce lived in Baskin along with her three siblings, on a farm on Hemphill Road. She passed from this life in the comfort of her home on Hemphill Road in Baskin, on April 6, 2026.
She attended Baskin High School. Joyce married Jack Hilbun in 1948 in a ceremony by a justice of the peace at Shipley's Dry Cleaner in Winnsboro. They went straight to Natchez to begin their 58-year marriage. Jack worked at the Holsum Bakery and Bread Company and Joyce went to work at the local movie theater. Joyce was a homemaker raising her four children until they moved the family to Newellton where Jack helped restore the antebellum home, Winter Quarters. After the completion of Winter Quarters, Joyce worked as a tour guide until its closure. Joyce began working at the nursing home in Newellton where she met Tex Minchew. Joyce and Jack became his caregiver until his death. After Jack retired from Lake Bruin State Park as manager, they returned to Hemphill Road in Baskin. Joyce enjoyed working in her yard, bird watching, and her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jack Hilbun, daughter, Teresa Hilbun, granddaughter, Tamera Clark sister Dorothy Lebeaux, and family friend, Tex Minchew.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Ronald "Tookie" Hilbun of Newellton; daughters, Debbie Thames (Merle), and Eileen Graves (Johnny) of Baskin; siblings June Hemphill, and Walter Hemphill (Linda) of Baskin; granddaughters: Holly Lowe (Jory), Traci Thomas (Johnathan), Morgan Baker (Brandon), and Brittney Hilbun; grandsons: Gerry Clark, Shan Hilbun; great grandchildren: Mallarie Lowe, Macy Miller, Emily Lowe, Trace Evans (Kristie), Saylor Evans, Jaxen Lowe, Jesse Clark, Holden Clark, Madison, Natali, Peyton, Julia, and Charli Douglas; great- great grandchildren: Adley Greer, Koan Straughter, and Josephine Evans.
Pallbearers will be Shan Hilbun, Lavelle Williamson, David Rigdon, Justin Miller, Trace Evans, Gerry Clark, Jory Lowe, and Johnathan Thomas.
Honorary pallbearer will be Gordon Sorey.
