Jurell Anthony ThamesWinnsboro, LAA memorial service for Jurell Anthony Thames, 81, of Winnsboro will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Rayville, with Bro. Cory Taylor officiating.Jurell, the son of the late James Curtis Waller and the late Mertice Thames Waller, was born May 19, 1943, in Jigger, and passed from this life February 11, 2024, at Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro after a brief illness.Jurell, a member of the American Legion, retired from the Air Force as a Master Sargent and worked as a civilian employee of the Air Force in the role of athletic director for many years. He loved to bass fish and to mow his yard. Most of all he loved his family.Jurell is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Claude 'Bunt' Waller, and his daughter Tara Denice Thames.He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Garner Thames; sons: James Thames and Emily, and Stephen Thames and Teri; sister Rhonda Nielsen and Bill; grandchildren: Christopher, Hannah, Kenneth, Madonna, Tony, and Steven; great-grandchildren: D. J., Zehiem, Elacia, Cam, Hazel, and Olivia; and many other family members and friends.Honorary pallbearers are Hoytt Erwin, Kermit Burnside, Wade Berlew, W. L.
