Obituary

Graveside services for Leon Shivers, 76, of Winnsboro, will be 10 am Monday, May 6, 2019, in Northeast Louisiana Veteran's Cemetery with Rev. Eddie Erwin officiating under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5 - 8 pm Sunday May 5, 2019, at the funeral home.
Leon was born April 29, 1943, in Winnsboro to the union of Tommy Dee Shivers and Elmer Howard Shivers Allen and passed from this life on May 2, 2019, at Plantation Manor Nursing Center.
Leon served in the United States Marines in his younger days; after his military discharge he worked as a carpenter until his retirement. Leon had many titles, but the one he cherished most was that of "Papa." Papa's greatest times were those spent with his grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to attend a birthday party, ball game, or graduation. He was so very proud of his children and grandchildren. Even after suffering a stroke, Papa always found ways to interact with and enjoy time with his loved ones. Though unofficially, Pap was the greeter at Plantation Manor for several years; he greeted all who entered with a wave and a giant smile; all who received that smile know what a blessing it was and how it will be missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister Decille Deason; two brothers: Elmer D. Shivers and Billy Wayne Allen.
Survivors include daughter, Traci Shivers Hamilton and spouse Robert of White Oak, TX, their children, Korbyn and Keatyn Hamilton; daughter Kristie Hitt and spouse Marvin of Winnsboro, her children: Kaycee Rushing, Joshua and Mykah Nealy; son Clay Shivers and spouse Celeste of Crowville, their children: Hayden, Camden and Alli Shivers; great grandchildren: Cheyann Rushing, Kaylee Rushing and Addison Nealy; the mother of his children Pat Shivers of Winnsboro; brothers: O'Neal Shivers, Wade Shivers and spouse Gisela; sisters Helen Thompson and spouse Russell, Patsy Veazey and spouse Roger.
Pallbearers will be Robert Hamilton, Marvin Hitt, Josh Nealy, Camden Shivers, Clay Shivers, and Hayden Shivers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Shelby Grant, Russell Thompson, Roger Veazey and Billy Bob Wiggins.
The family extends a special heartfelt thanks to the staff at Plantation Manor and Hospice TLC for the care they so lovingly provided him.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, Patrick's Pals Animal Rescue of Winnsboro or to the charity of your choice.
