Obituary

Funeral service for Lillie "Tugar" Kline, 97, of Monroe, formerly of Mangham, will be held 2 pm Thursday, April 24, 2025, at New Light Baptist Church, Mangham, with Dr. Alan Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Gwin Cemetery, Mangham, under the direction of Dennard First National Funeral Home, Winnsboro. Visitation will be 1 pm until time of service at the church.

Lillie was born July 25, 1927, in Baskin to the union of the late John Henry Dickerson and the late Lillie Garvin Dickerson and passed from this life on April 21, 2025, at her home in Monroe.

Mrs. Tugar was a long time member of New Light Baptist Church. She grew up in Baskin and graduated Baskin High school at the age of 16 and encouraged each of her daughters to obtain a college education. She was employed for many years at the garment factory in Winnsboro as a supervisor and was also a consultant with Mary Kay for a number of years. Mrs. Tugar also was a seamstress who took pride in sewing dresses for her daughters and made most of their wedding dresses. During Bible School she was the kitchen lady serving cookies and Kool-Aid to the children. One of her favorite times in her life was being able to travel to Europe and loved telling about her trip.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 years, Martin Edward Kline; three sisters and one brother.

Those left to cherish her memory include her four daughters: Barbara Kirkland and husband Neill of Ruston, Dianne Lawrence and husband Ron of Monroe, June Johnston and husband Charles of West Monroe, and Kay Nolan and husband Sammy of Start; five grandchildren: Robert Neill Kirkland and wife Amy, Jon Martin Kirkland and wife Pam, Jerri Kaye Johnston, Brad Johnston and wife Michelle, and Sarah Kirk and husband Aaron; eight great grandchildren: Joey Kirkland and wife MaKayla, Elise Kirkland, Jon Reid Kirkland, Annabelle Kirkland, Briley Green, Brayden Johnston, Devin Kirk, and Austin Kirk.

Pallbearers will be Robert Neill Kirkland, Jon Kirkland, Brad Johnston, Joey Kirkland, Aaron Kirk, Brayden Johnston, Christian Weed, and Spencer Cade Blaylock.

Any planned memorials may be made to St. Judes Children's Hospital.
