Funeral services for Matthew Kirk "Matt" Courtney, 41, of Winnsboro, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 25, 2023, at Life Church, with Rev. Kevin Bates officiating, interment will follow at Oakley Cemetery, Gilbert; visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., Sunday at the church, all under the direction of Dennard First National Funeral Home - Winnsboro.
Matthew was born May 25, 1982, in Lucedale, MS, to Anthony Kirk Courtney and Cecelia Ann Smith Courtney.
Our sweet angel, protector, comforter, Matthew Courtney tragically left this life on September 16, 2023. He was a wonderful father and husband who was always there for his family. He loved many things in life, putting smiles on our faces, working like no other man I have ever met; cooking us extravagant meals was one of his favorites. He loved his Tigers and never missed a game; hosting family and friends was what he lived to do.
Matt, a member of Life Church, worked as a pipefitter/planner for 25 years in the construction industry. He enjoyed life to the fullest, but his biggest joy was making others smile.
He is survived by his wife Magan Courtney and children Sydney Courtney Pope and husband Bryce Pope, Blayne Shively, Maddison Campbell, and Bentley Barfield; his mother Cecilia Avera and husband Gary Avera; his father Kirk Courtney; his mother-in-law Rhonda Campbell; father-in-law Guy Barfield; siblings James Courtney and wife Andrea, Brittany Courtney, and Derrick Musgrove; special aunt Jennifer Riddle and husband Steve Riddle; grandchildren: Madi and Oakley Pope; a host of nieces and nephews, and special friend Guillermo Marroquin.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Mattie Rose Courtney; paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Courtney; and maternal grandparents Wayne and Margret Smith.
Pallbearers are Justin Barfield, Zachary Barfield, Chansey Campbell, James Courtney, David Gilmore, and Jason Ogden.
Honorary pallbearers are Blayne Shively, Seth Barfield, Roshad (Poochie) Addison, Guy Barfield, Bryce Pope, Johnathon Campbell, Dane Walker, and Butch Kenney.
