Funeral services for Merlene Smith, 83, of Winnsboro will be 2 PM Friday June 14, 2024, in the chapel of Dennard First National Funeral Home with Rev. Fran Guy and Rev. Richard Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery, Winnsboro. Visitation will be 5 - 7 PM Thursday June 13, 2024, at the funeral home.Merlene was born July 29, 1940 in Winnsboro and passed peacefully from this life on June 11, 2024, at Legacy Nursing Center in Winnsboro, with her family by her side.Merlene was a member of Burroughs Pentecostal Church. She worked for the garment factory in Winnsboro, was meat department manager for McLemore's Jitney Jungle for many years after her retirement she worked part time at The Flower Shop in Columbia; she was a lifelong seamstress. When she wasn't spending time with her family she enjoyed quilting, crafting and wood working. She loved her family especially her grandchildren and they loved her.She is preceded in death by her father, Lewis Bernard Guy; her mother, Alma Irene Reeves Mercer; her brother, James Earl Smith.Those left to cherish her memory include her three children: Richard Smith and wife Penny of Columbia, Daniel Smith of Winnsboro, and Lesa Lynette Smith of Omaha, TX; three sisters, Marie Stephens of Winnsboro, Frances Guy of Winnsboro, and Maxine Scarbrough of Vicksburg, MS; sister in law Carolyn Smith of Winnsboro; eight grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.Pallbearers will be Andrew Smith, Josh Smith, Jordan Roberts, T. J.
