Funeral services for Mr. Monroe Richard Roberts, Jr., 73, of Wisner, will be 2 PM Thursday, December 5, 2019, at South Central Baptist Church, with Rev. Keith Dowden officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home. Visitation will be 10 AM Thursday until time of service at the church.
Mr. Monroe was born March 30, 1946, in New Orleans to the union of Monroe Richard Roberts, Sr. and Delma Wright Roberts and passed from this life on December 2, 2019, at Plantation Oaks Nursing Center in Wisner.
Mr. Monroe was a faithful member of South Central Baptist Church until his illness. He worked out of the Monroe Louisiana Local Ironworkers Union as an ironworker for many years until his health failed him. In his later years he worked for Haring Enterprises. Mr. Monroe was loved and respected by his community and will be truly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Richard Zane Roberts; two daughters: Michelle Shirley and Rene' Gillespie; two brothers: Thomas Roberts and wife Lily Kenney Roberts, Gerald Roberts; and sister, Mrs. Louise Caillouet of New Orleans, and brother-in-law, Eddie Caillouet.
Mr. Roberts is survived by his wife of 50 years Mrs. Dianne Curington Roberts, one daughter Kimberly Thomas and husband Carl, one sister Mrs. Stella Fatzer and husband Lionel; four grandchildren: Christopher and Joseph Thomas, Paul Gillespie and Elizabeth McCain; five great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by four sisters-in-law Mary Alice Rhodes, JoAnn Taylor, Betty Sauseda and Lily McQuillen Roberts; and three brothers-in-law, Vernon Curington, Fred Taylor and Bennie Sauseda; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Fatzer, Lil John Haring, Robbie Roberts, Talmadge Roberts, Brad Taylor and Christopher Thomas.
