It brings with great sadness that Sharlotte M. Cain of Gilbert, LA passed away on May 13, 2024, at 77 years young. Sharlotte was born on July 3, 1946, to the late Ernest Ephram Davis and the late Dora Mae Carter LaPietra, in Monroe, Louisiana.
Sharlotte is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Jimmy R. Cain of Gilbert, LA; her beloved daughter, Candace Cain of Metairie, LA; her caring son, Chuck Cain of Blue Springs, MO; and three amazing grandchildren, Savannah Samuels, John-Michael Cain, and Charlie Cain.
Sharlotte was a cousin in name but a sister in heart to Shelley Carter-Wouters and Roger Carter, as well as their spouses, Mike Wouters & Elicia Carter. Their camping escapades were some of Sharlotte's fondest moments and will never be forgotten. She was loved and adored by so many, especially Ronnie and Regina Cain & Delilah Parker. The bond they all shared with Sharlotte will last beyond this life and talked about for generations.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Joe LaPietra, her loving brother, Tony LaPietra, and her perfect little chihuahua, Emma.
Sharlotte started her passion of teaching in Franklin Parish, completed her tenure in East Baton Rouge 30 years later, and had been living the good life for 20 years following retirement. She had an incredible impact on so many lives and was often referred to as one of the best teachers of all time. She earned the title of Teacher of the Year on countless occasions during her career.
Sharlotte's other passion (besides her family) was birdwatching and camping. She could recognize with precision every bird in the wild. She was a member of birding groups which lead to her and Jimmy traveling all over the country for years in their camper, seeing new countryside and meeting new people all while learning about those birds. She kept a detailed journal consisting of her life list of birds seen and their location. The book was full! She had an array of fancy cameras, scopes, and binoculars. We still don't know why National Geographic never put her on the payroll. Sharlotte's favorite bird was the Painted Bunting.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Sharlotte. All she needed was her family, her animals, her TV shows, and a hot cup of tea. She was a selfless woman who poured every inch of herself into the family. Sharlotte was funny and always had a way with expressing the funniest Southern sayins that brought tears of laughter to all of our eyes. She loved deeply and was an absolute gem to all who knew her.
Funeral services for Sharlotte Cain will be on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 10am with the visitation on Friday, May 24th from 5-7pm,all under the direction of Dennard First National Funeral Home in Winnsboro, Louisiana.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Cain, Charlie Cain, Ronnie Cain, Roger Carter, and Michael Wouters.
