Funeral services for Tommy Lowell Kimbrough, 71, of Winnsboro, LA, formerly of Harrisonburg, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 14, 2026, at Life Church with Rev. Kevin Bates and Rev. George Bates officiating. Interment will follow in Oakley Cemetery in Gilbert, under the direction of Dennard First National Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church.
Tommy was born October 1, 1954, in Natchez, MS, to the union of the lateMeredith “Buster” Kimbrough and the late Ethel Smith Kimbrough and passed from this life on August 9, 2026, at his residence in Winnsboro after a brief illness.
Tommy was a member of Life Church where he served on the Board of Elders, as an usher, and as a volunteer in children’s ministry. He formerly taught Sunday School at Bird’s Creek Baptist Church, Wisner First Baptist Church, and Lone Cedar Baptist Church. Tommy valued studying the Word and talking with others about Jesus. His basketball talent earned him a college scholarship, after which he worked in the oil field before returning home to his passion as a Performance Horse Trainer. He could bring the best out of even the wildest of horses. He was an avid storyteller, hunter, fisherman and tie-down calf roper. His closest friends say that Tommy took Jesus along for all those activities. He prioritized his routine visits with his friends at Plantation Manor Nursing Center for a game of dominoes, where he always kept score and normally won. He enjoyed cooking for his family and friends and was “famous” for his fried fish and his cowboy beans, cooked in cast iron over an open fire on the cook set he made by hand.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parentsand his son, Israel Kimbrough.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Kim Kiper Kimbrough, his sister, Rebecca “Becky” Mize, his brother Charles D. “Skeeter” Kimbrough, his two children: Codie LaCroix and husband Jason, Queenie McCartney and husband Whitney, his daughter-in-law, Cheryl Otwell, seven grandchildren: Gracie, Gavin, and Lily LaCroix, Noel and Adassah Kimbrough, Maggie and Pearl McCartney, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Aaron Crawford, Junior Crawford, Ethan Kimbrough, Heath Kimbrough, Myles Kiper, Gavin LaCroix, Jason LaCroix, and Whitney McCartney.
Honorary pallbearers will be Uriah James and Clay Kiper. Per Tommy’s request, a host of “his girls” will also escort his casket, dressed in boots, jeans, and cowboy hats.
Any planned memorials may be made to Life Church, P.O. Box 34, Winnsboro 71295, in memory of Tommy or to the charity of your choice.
